For me it’s the ‘write by candlelight before the sun comes up’. It sounds amazing, but rarely do my life circumstances align to make that practical

I think I did that for about 3 months once, and then remembered I love sleep too much 🤣

Thank you for this. I needed to hear it. I used to think I needed to write every day to be a writer. Until I joined a writing group and I realized us "real writers" actually do it in the way that works for us. This was such a great reminder for me. :)

I’m so glad it resonated! The biggest thing I’ve learned since embracing my writer side is that there’s no “right” way to right—every book I’ve written has been completed a little differently, and what matters is that the book is out there and entertaining readers.

How do you feel about the act of “free writing” every day? Not necessarily working on the novel or book or big thing, but practicing the act of getting words out?

I love free writing! I do morning pages most days. That’s important processing time for me. And I also probably write something every day, even if it’s not fiction—like my Substack, or content for IG, where I’m processing my thoughts about writing as a mom and sharing perspectives with others. I know I’m a writer because I’m draw to writing and will never stop doing it, but it doesn’t require a daily commitment to still be true.
